History of VDHF
VHDF has proudly celebrated and supported our residents for more than 60 years. We first opened our doors on April 11, 1960 to provide warm, welcoming, and affordable housing for seniors and families across our community. Since then, we’ve grown to serve eight municipalities:
VDHF owns and operates Vermilion Valley Lodge (86 rooms) and Vermilion Valley Lodge Cottages (8 units), where our residents can embrace all the comforts of carefree living. For those who require 24-hour healthcare access and daily homecare assistance, we offer 30 CCH Type B (formerly DSL3) studio suites, and we have also acquired the temporary capacity of 10 additional CCH Type B Secure Space suites (formerly DSL4) to further support the evolving needs of our residents.

Our Mission
Improve the quality of life and quality of care for all residents by promoting an atmosphere of respect, collaboration, sensitivity, caring and support among residents, family members, and staff.
VDHF was formed to support seniors and families in the Town of Vermilion and County of Vermilion River. Vermilion Valley Lodge opened its doors.
VDHF renovated the Lodge. The old 1960 Wing-D and Wing-E were brought into compliance with modern building codes.
The Town of Vermilion and surrounding communities identified the need for a facility to support seniors with a higher level of care.
VDHF opened a new Supportive Living Level 3 wing.
VDHF began a modernization project of the existing lodge. This included the demolition of three wings and the building core, as well as the construction of a new 52-bed facility complete with a dining room, commercial laundry, chapel, recreation kitchen, recreation multipurpose room, fitness room, homecare office, and more.
The Lodge’s new two-story Wing-A was completed.
The Lodge’s new two-story Wing-B was completed.
VDHF added the hamlet of Dewberry properties and the M.D. of Wainwright properties to our housing portfolio.
VHDF acquired the temporary capacity of 10 additional CCH-Type B Secure Space suites (formerly DSL4) to further support the evolving needs of residents.
VDHF now has a total of 296 units serving seniors in the Town of Vermilion, the County of Vermilion River, the Town of Wainwright, and the M.D of Wainwright.
