History

In 2000, the Town of Vermilion and surrounding communities identified the need for a facility to support the seniors with a higher level of care. The Foundation hired Group 2 Architecture to design and build Supportive Living Level 3 (SL3) in March of 2003 with completion dates in 2004. SL3 provided an additional 40 beds and has a connecting hallway to the existing Lodge.

In 1999, Vermilion & District Housing Foundation began to renovate the Lodge. The old 1960 Wing-D and Wing-E was brought into compliance with modern building codes such as upgrading and installing fire and safety devices and water sprinkler system.

In June 2016, the Vermilion & District Housing Foundation undertook a modernization project on the existing lodge in Wing-A, Wing-B and Wing-C. This modernization project included the demolition of the 3 existing “wings” (Wings A, B and C) and the building Core, and the construction of a new 52 bed facility complete with dining room, commercial laundry facility, commercial kitchen, chapel, living room, resident personal laundry room, recreation kitchen, recreation multipurpose room, elevators, fitness room, assisted bath, homecare office, recreation office, staff lounge, maintenance office, basement storage and conversation lounges. The Foundation hired JMAA Architecture to work on the new lodge design and awarded the building projects to Jen-Col Construction Ltd. Construction commenced in 2017 and the new two story Wing-A was completed in summer of 2018. The remaining two story Wing-B was completed on October 30, 2019.
